Karsen is a passionate and driven costume designer, technician, and educator who has designed and constructed costumes throughout her career for both professional and educational theaters, including Shenandoah University, The Barn Theatre, and Utah Shakespeare Festival.  Karsen has spent her last year working as the Costume Design Fellow at Shenandoah University, where she designs for mainstage productions, teaches costume and makeup courses, and manages the costume shop throughout the academic year.  Some of her recent professional designs include Escape to Margaritaville at The Barn Theatre in Michigan, The Taming at Lean Ensemble Theatre, and Angels in America: Millenium Approaches at Maryland Ensemble Theatre.  In addition to her costume design work, she is also an avid costume technician (sewing, fitting, flat patterning, dyeing, millinery).  Her hobbies include crocheting presents for her friends and doing crossword puzzles on Sunday mornings.
